Biography

Born in 1941, Michael Steinhardt (New York and Mount Kisco, NY) is one of the most successful investors in the history of Wall Street and also widely known for his philanthropic activities, particularly in the Jewish community - most notably as the cofounder with Charles Bronfman of Birthright Israel, a program whose mission is to provide the means for every young Jewish person of the Diaspora to visit Israel.
He is the founder of Steinhardt Partners, whose hedge fund produced an average annual return of 24%, netting him a personal fortune reportedly worth over $500 million. Steinhardt didn't exactly go out with a bang. He ended his illustrious hedge fund career in 1995, a year after suffering big losses. However, $1 invested with Steinhardt when he founded his firm in 1967 would be worth $462 today.
