Biography
Martin Zweig is the Chairman of the Zweig Fund and the Zweig Total Return Fund, the publisher of the influential, trend-spotting Zweig Forecast, the financial strategist with over $7 billion under management, and the market analyst who has been called "the hottest, most respected stock picker in the land".
Dr. Zweig serves as asset allocation strategist for the Phoenix-Zweig series trust, seven retail mutual funds. He is also chairman of two NYSE-listed closed-end funds, The Zweig Fund, Inc. and The Zweig Total Return Fund, Inc. For 27 years, he edited the newsletter, The Zweig Forecast, which was ranked number one for risk-adjusted return over the 15 years that it was monitored by the Hulbert Financial Digest. Dr. Zweig has been a regular panelist and guest host of the PBS program Wall $treet Week With Louis Rukeyser since 1973, and was voted into its Hall of Fame in 1992.
He has a B.S.E. from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania (1964) and is a member of the Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board. He has an MBA from the University of Miami (1967), where he was recognized as Alumnus of Distinction in 1991. He has a Ph.D. in finance from Michigan State University (1969), which honored him with its Outstanding Alumni Award in 1990. Dr. Zweig was a finance professor for 15 years (University of Miami, Michigan State University, City of New York and Iona College). He wrote numerous articles on the stock market in Barron's beginning in 1970, where he invented the puts/calls ratio, and has been published in academic journals. He is the author of two books, including the best-selling Winning on Wall Street, and the no-longer-in-print Winning with New IRA's. He is a trustee of the Museum of American Financial History and a founder of the Penn Club.
